Hope Kminek
MSW Graduate Intern

My Approach: I strive to make therapy a space where clients feel seen, heard, and empowered to explore their stories without judgment. My work is rooted in cultural humility and a deep respect for each person’s resilience and lived experience. As an Asian American adoptee who grew up in rural Iowa, I understand how identity and belonging can be a source of both struggle and growth.

I draw from Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing to help clients identify strengths, navigate change, and develop strategies that fit their unique needs. Whether we are working with children, adults, or families, my goal is to create an adaptive, accessible, and collaborative space where growth and self-understanding can thrive.

"Therapy grounded in cultural humility and compassion."

I'm a master’s-level student intern passionate about supporting children and adults as they face challenges related to identity and life transitions. I see therapy as a space grounded in acceptance, warmth, and mutual trust. For me, that means practicing with cultural humility, honoring the resilience each person carries, and ensuring that therapy is accessible and adaptive to fit each person's needs.

As an Asian American adoptee who grew up in a rural Iowa town, I understand how identity and belonging can be a source of both struggle and growth. This lived experience informs my commitment to creating a space where clients can explore who they are and feel truly heard and understood. My therapeutic approach will draw on skills from Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing.
